The All Progressives Congress (APC) has announced that aspirants vying for chairmanship positions in the 2026 Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Area Council elections will pay ₦20 million for nomination and expression of interest forms.
This was disclosed in a statement released via the party’s official X (formerly Twitter) handle on Tuesday. The statement, signed by the APC’s National Organising Secretary, Sulaiman Argungu, also detailed the party’s schedule of activities for the upcoming elections.
According to the breakdown, chairmanship hopefuls will pay ₦5 million for the Expression of Interest form and ₦15 million for the Nomination form. Councillorship aspirants are to pay a total of ₦2.5 million—₦500,000 for the Expression of Interest and ₦2 million for the Nomination form.
In an effort to promote inclusivity, the party announced concessions for women and persons with disabilities (PWDs), who will only be required to purchase the Expression of Interest forms, while the Nomination forms will be issued free of charge. Additionally, youths aged between 25 and 40 are eligible for a 50 percent discount on Nomination forms.
The APC further disclosed that the sale of forms will commence on Thursday, May 22, 2025, and end on Wednesday, May 28, 2025. Screening of aspirants is scheduled for Monday, June 16, 2025, with party primaries to follow on Wednesday, June 25, 2025.
This development comes after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) earlier confirmed that the FCT Area Council elections will be conducted on February 21, 2026. INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, made the announcement during a consultative meeting with political parties in January, noting that the tenure of the current council chairmen and councillors will expire on that date.
The last Area Council elections in the FCT were held on February 21, 2022.
