Nigerian midfielder Samson Tijani is close to joining Czech side Dukla Prague, ending a four-year stint with Red Bull Salzburg, Soccernet.ng reports.
The 23-year-old former Golden Eaglets captain is in Prague for a medical today ahead of a free transfer. Dukla, managed by David Holoubek, will secure Tijani’s signature before his contract with Salzburg expires this June.
Renowned journalist Ojora Babatunde shared footage of Tijani’s arrival in Prague, reporting that “the deal is apparently a formality.”
Signed by Salzburg in 2020, Tijani’s progress was hampered by injuries and competition. He made just five senior appearances but gained experience on loan at Liefering, Hartberg, WAC, and recently Fredrikstad in Norway before an injury cut short that spell.
Across Austria’s top divisions and cup competitions, Tijani made over 60 appearances. He first gained international attention at the 2019 U-17 World Cup, scoring twice in Nigeria’s 4–2 win over Hungary. He later earned a senior cap in a friendly against Algeria in 2020.
Now a free agent, Tijani looks to revive his career in the Czech top flight under Holoubek’s guidance after missing out on Salzburg’s FIFA Club World Cup squad.
