The Director of News and Politics Editor at Arise Television, Sumner Sambo, has dismissed the chances of former Minister of Transport, Rotimi Amaechi, clinching the presidential ticket of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in 2027.
Speaking on Monday during The Morning Show on Arise TV, Sambo described Amaechi’s recent political statements as a deliberate distraction, alleging that the ADC’s current maneuvers are aimed at unsettling the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the next general elections.
He suggested that the opposition coalition, recently floated under the ADC platform, is employing “strategies and tendencies” designed to confuse President Bola Tinubu and his political machinery.
“In my own thinking, they’ve started playing a chess game against Tinubu. If he’s not careful, he may be confused, because these ADC leaders appear to have agreed on techniques to frustrate the APC’s election planning committee ahead of 2027,” Sambo said.
The journalist questioned Amaechi’s political reach, noting that his most prominent national role was serving as Director-General of the Buhari/Osinbajo campaigns in 2014 and 2019.
“So here’s Amaechi saying he would defeat Tinubu – it’s not going to be easy,” he remarked. “Tinubu commands a loyal following in the APC, and when it comes to securing a party ticket, his political strategy is very difficult to beat.”
Sambo maintained that, given Tinubu’s record as a political strategist and the uncertainty within the ADC, the likelihood of Amaechi emerging as the coalition’s presidential candidate remains slim.
