Some armed men broke into a man’s house around 2:00 a.m., robbed him and abducted his wife at a community in Delta State, just as the police in the state went after the abductors and succeeded in rescuing the woman.
The Delta State Police Command announced the development on its Facebook wall on Tuesday, October 14, saying the incident took place in the early hours of Monday.
According to the command, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) OF Ovian Aladja Police Station received a distress call from a man (name withheld) that while they were sleeping, armed men broke into his apartment, robbed him and kidnapped his wife.
However, following the distress call, the DPO mobilised operatives of the division who went after the kidnappers with a view to ensuring that the woman was rescued unhurt.
The command added that the operatives trailed the kidnappers to a forest along the Iyara community.
Following unrelenting effort from the operatives, the abductors were said to have abandoned the woman and escaped deeper into the forest.
The woman was eventually rescued unhurt and has since been reunited with her husband.
The command disclosed a manhunt had been launched for the arrest of the fleeing armed men.
