Five fake police officers who operate in three states arrested, found with handcuffs, naira notes extorted from residents

Five men who belonged to a syndicate that used to pose as police officers and extort residents in Kano, Katsina and Kaduna states have been arrested by men of the Kano State Police Command.

The command announced the arrest on its Facebook page on Saturday morning in a by its Public Relations Officer, Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, saying the five men used a blue Peugeot 406 car as their operational vehicle.

The command gave their names as Aliyu Abbas, Sani Iliyasu, Ashiru Sule, Abubakar Yahaya, and Adamu Kalilu, adding that they were apprehended by operatives from the command’s Special Intervention Squad (SIS) on Thursday afternoon.

According to the command, at the point of their arrest, they were found in possession of various items, including a fake police warrant card, a pair of handcuffs, 2,500 CFA, mutilated naira notes of different denominations, among others.

The command wrote: “During the investigation, the suspects confessed to have engaged in a series of impersonations, admitting to using the fake police warrant card to extort residents and commit other nefarious activities in Kano, Katsina, and Kaduna states.”

They were said to have given more useful information to the police operatives and they will be charged to court upon completion of the investigation.
