Police in Ghana are currently interrogating a woman who forced a 15-year-old Nigerian girl into prostitution after she was lured from Enugu State with a promise of a lucrative job.
In fact, the teenager, according to the Ghana Police, is currently five weeks pregnant.
According to reports, a woman, Golden Blessing, currently on the run, visited the girl’s family in Enugu State and convinced them to release their daughter after promising that a cleaning job awaits her in Lagos.
However, when they got to Lagos, she took the teenager to Ghana and handed her over to Joy Ogbonna, another Nigerian woman, who took her to Tarkwa in the Western Region of the country, confined her in a room, forced her into prostitution and collected the proceeds.
It was gathered that the distraught girl was able to lament her situation to someone living near the place she was confined to and she gave the person her father’s phone number.
After the father was contacted, he was said to have reported the matter at a police station in Enugu and following the information received, the Ghana Police was contacted. The officers traced the house, rescue the lady and arrested Joy Ogbonna.
The Ghana Police said: “A medical report confirmed that the victim was five weeks pregnant. The suspect, Joy Ogbonna, is currently in police custody and will be arraigned soon.
“Efforts are also ongoing to arrest her accomplice, Golden Blessing, who is believed to be in Nigeria.”
