Two senators and six members of the House of Representatives from Rivers State who are loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, on Tuesday, December 23, defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
This comes a few days after the Rivers State Governor, Sim Fubara, and some members of the state House of Assembly including the speaker and his deputy defected to the APC.
The two senators that defected are Senator Onyesoh Alwell representing Rivers East Senatorial District and Senator Barry Mpigi representing Rivers South Senatorial Districts.
Their defection was announced at the Red Chamber by the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio and received wild jubilation from the APC senators in the chamber.
Shortly after their defection, six members of the House of Representatives from the state also announced their defection during the plenary at the Green Chamber.
Those that defected are Honourables Solomon Bob, Victor Obuzor, Dumnamene Dekor, Cyril Hart, Blessing Amadi and Felix Nwaeke.
Their defections were announced by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Honourable Tajudeen Abbas.
