The Deputy Governor of Oyo State, Mr Adebayo Lawal, has said the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will emerge stronger from its current internal crisis and reiterated the party’s enduring strength.
Lawal stressed that as the oldest political party in Nigeria, the PDP possesses deep roots that will allow it to overcome any challenges.
He stated this at a New Year gathering hosted at his Irepo Local Government Area residence on Thursday, January 1, 2026, which brought together PDP leaders, stakeholders, and current and former political officeholders.
While reiterating the party’s unity and loyalty to Governor Seyi Makinde, the Deputy Governor stressed that the PDP is the only party that can defeat the All Progressives Congress (APC), and expressed confidence in the party’s victory in the 2027 general election.
Lawal lauded the governor’s efforts in developing Oke-Ogun Zone and Oyo State and acknowledged his appointments of Oke-Ogun indigenes to key positions, highlighting the governor’s infrastructure initiatives in the zone.
The Deputy Governor also urged party members to increase party membership, assuring that those who had left would return as the party’s strength grows.
In his speech at the gathering, Mr Hamid Gbadamosi, a member of the PDP Board of Trustees, also commended the party members for their resolute stand behind the party amidst the ongoing internal crisis.
Gbadamosi stressed that the party, with the support of Governor Makinde and other leaders, will emerge victorious at the 2027 polls.
