US President Donald Trump has again insisted that many Chriatians are being killed in Nigeria in what he has often referred to as ‘Christian genocide,’ saying the terrorists who carried out the act had been hit hard.
Trump said this on Thursday at the ongoing World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, while giving his speech on various issues in the world.
“In Nigeria, we are annihilating terrorists who are killing Christians. We have hit them very hard. They have killed thousands and thousands of Christians. What is that all about?” Trump said during his speech.
“Much of this unprecedented success is possible because I rebuilt our military in my first term and we are now making it even stronger,” he added.
Trump also issued a stark warning about the humanitarian crisis unfolding in Nigeria, saying his administration will continue to take decisive military action against extremist groups responsible for the violence.
His remarks come amid growing international concern over religious persecution, insurgency, and mass displacement in Nigeria’s northern regions.
Just this Sunday, gunmen struck at a village in Kajuru, Kaduna State, abducting over 160 Christian worshippers. Though the Nigeria Police initially denied the abduction, it later said available information indicated that the worshippers were indeed abducted.
