Some Boko Haram terrorists who were riding bicycles were said to have fled in different directions, abandoning the sum of N4.77 million, some weapons as well as other items when they were pursued by soldiers at a road in Borno State.
According to the Nigerian Army in a statement on Sunday, October 19, troops of the Joint Task Force, North East Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK) recorded a major breakthrough in the fight against terrorism, recovering the money, mobile phones, bicycles, and weapons after the encounter that took place along the Maiduguri–Damboa Road in.
The incident occurred on October 18 when troops from the Forward Operating Base (FOB), Molai, on routine patrol along the Main Supply Route (MSR) Maiduguri–Damboa, sighted the terrorists near Masta Fanameri.
On sighting the approaching soldiers, the terrorists fled into the bush, abandoning their belongings. The troops were said to have immediately launched a search-and-pursue operation, though no further contact was made with the terrorists.
In a related development, troops of 26 Task Force Brigade and 222 Battalion under OPHK recorded additional operational successes in Gwoza and Konduga local government areas of the state. Two terrorists were shot dead while two AK-47 rifles, magazines, grenades, uniforms, and motorcycles were seized.
Troops also intercepted a truck transporting 170 empty gas cylinders, suspected to be part of terrorist logistics, effectively disrupting their supply network.
