Operatives of the Kaduna State Police Command have killed two armed robbers and arrested two others following a midnight robbery at Gashash Estate in Barnawa.
The incident, which occurred around 3:10 a.m., involved a gang of about eight men who broke into several homes, making away with valuables including mobile phones, laptops, gaming consoles, jewelry, and wristwatches.
The swift response by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Barnawa Division, reinforced by patrol teams from Kakuri and Sabon Tasha divisions, as well as soldiers from the 312 Artillery Regiment, Kalapanzi, led to a high-speed chase. The fleeing gang was intercepted along Makera Main Road in Kakuri, where they opened fire on the security team.
According to Police spokesperson DSP Mansir Hassan, a fierce exchange of gunfire ensued, resulting in the death of two robbers. Two others were apprehended, and a locally made pistol, live ammunition, and other dangerous weapons were recovered from them. Further investigations led to the retrieval of stolen items, including seven phones, two laptops, two PlayStation consoles, three wristwatches, and assorted jewelry.
One police officer sustained gunshot wounds and is receiving treatment at the Police Clinic. Meanwhile, efforts are ongoing to apprehend the remaining suspects who fled the scene.
Commissioner of Police, CP Rabiu Muhammad, praised the coordinated response by police, military, and DSS operatives, urging residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activity to security agencies.
