Nigerians recently evacuated from United Arab Emirates have vowed to reject the Lagos state decision to subject them to COVID-19 test.
The Lagos State Commissioner for Health, Prof. Akin Abayomi, on Wednesday, during his visit to a hotel in Lekki where some of the Dubai returnees are being isolated told them that the government would be administering a test on all of them.
The returnees who did not welcome his pronouncement vowed to resist any attempt to subject them to such a test except the deplorable condition under which they are kept is improved.
However, the evacuees questioned the commissioner for telling the press on Tuesday that one of them died of COVID-19.
They said the 32- year old deceased did not die of COVID-19 but as a result of government negligence that led to the death of the evacuee.
They said “What happened was that one of us had surgery in Dubai and he returned in a wheelchair.
“Instead of taking him to a hospital because he was in critical condition, they decided to keep him in the isolation centre with us for two days and his condition got worse. He was then taken to a hospital where he eventually died”
It is recalled that no fewer than 256 evacuated Nigerians arrived in Lagos State from the United Arab Emirates on May 6, 2020.
