The driver of a Toyota Hummer bus has been arrested by men of the Delta State Police Command after 400 live cartridges were found concealed inside the bus which were being taken to Edo State.
The state police command announced the discovery on its Facebook page on Sunday afternoon, saying the driver, Ozoemenam Sylvanus, was arrested by the operatives attached to the C Divisional Headquarters, Asaba.
It was gathered that the operatives intercepted the driver at the Asaba end of the Head Bridge while they were conducting surveillance and stop and search operations. When the bus, which was heading to Edo State was searched, the live cartridges were found carefully concealed inside.
The command wrote: “The driver initially lied that what he had in the vehicle were padlocks but when the operatives searched it, they discovered the 400 cartridges. He was arrested immediately while both him and the items were taken to the station.”
He was said to have given more useful information to the police operatives while the matter has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for more investigation in order to unravel others behind the movement of the ammunition.
