A 63-year-old man who attempted to steal a motorcycle from where it was parked with a master key has been arrested by men of the Niger State Police Command while carrying out the act.
The state police command announced the arrest on its Facebook page on Sunday, October 19, saying the man, Mohammed Sani, was apprehended by the patrol team attached to the B Divisional Headquarters, Kontagora, with the support of vigilante members.
According to the command, the team, while on patrol, saw the sexagenarian at Tugan-kawo Village while he was about to steal a Bajaj motorcycle parked by the owner with what the police described as a “master key.”
The command wrote: “During his arrest, he was found with a bunch of keys which he used to steal motorcycles. He confessed to the crime and has given more useful information, especially regarding other motorcycles that he has stolen.”
He is expected to be charged to court at the conclusion of the investigation while the owner of the motorcycle has been handed over his bike after identification, the command added.
The state police command has been grappling with the activities of various criminal groups, including armed robbers, bandits, terrorists, among others, terrorising residents of some parts of the state.
Some of those arrested have been charged to various courts.
