Protest on Friday, January 23, rocked some parts of Ijebu Ode, Ogun State, following the suspension of the selection process of the Awujale of Ijebuland by the state government.
The government had, through the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, during the week, ordered the suspension of the selection process, citing petitions received and security reports.
However, some residents trooped to some of the streets carrying placards with various inscriptions and denouncing the suspension of the process which they described as “interference.”
The protesters said the alleged interference would make the selection process unnecessarily longer, while telling the state government to allow the Fusengbuwa Ruling House and kingmakers to perform their job.
It will be recalled that the Ruling House shortlisted one princess and 94 princes for the exalted position which they submitted to the kingmakers.
