Bandits on Saturday evening struck on a road in Niger State, attacked travellers, killed five of them, injured many others and abducted some of them.
The bandits also destroyed some commercial vehicles when they struck on Tungar Gero-Makera Way, Mashegu Local Government Area of the state.
According to a source in the area, the bandits on motorcycles took over the road for about an hour and attacked various vehicles passing the road.
They stopped an 18-passenger commercial bus and opened fire on people in the vehicle, killing the five passengers and injuring others.
They also attacked a commercial car and damaged it, taking the passengers inside it as captives into the forest.
The bandits were said to have operated on the road for about one hour unchallenged and security operatives reportedly arrived the scene after they had left.
The Northern part of the country, including the North-East, has been in the grips of bandits and terrorists who unleash mayhem on residents and travellers, killing people and abducting others.
