The various aspirants vying for the governorship seat on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kwara State have recommended a consensus arrangement for the emergence of the candidate of the party.
This followed a meeting the aspirants held at the Abuja residence of the former Senate President and a national leader of the party, Dr Bukola Saraki, on Sunday night.
A highly reliable source at the meeting told Impact Nigeria News Online on Monday afternoon that the aspirants, Ali Ahmad, Omar Bolaji Gambari, Ladi Hassan, Olaseni Ibiwoye (SAN) and Kale Kawu, resolved at the meeting to adopt the consensus arrangement.
In a resolution signed by the aspirants, a copy of which is in possession of Impact Nigeria News Online, the aspirants said in order to avoid unnecessary division, conserve time and resources as well as strengthen party unity and enter the campaign season as one cohesive team, they agreed to the consensus arrangement.
They therefore urged the party to moderate the process in line with democratic principles and provisions of the Electoral Act.
“We jointly affirm our commitment to accept the decision of the party leadership and we pledge our full support to whoever emerges as the party’s gubernatorial flagbearer,” the aspirants resolved.
They also said they had commenced consultations with their supporters across the state to communicate their voluntary decision to support the consensus arrangement and to encourage total support for the eventual candidate.
