The faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) backed by the Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has ratified the appointment of a 13-member Caretaker Committee headed by Tanimu Turaki, SAN, as chairman.

The appointment was made at the 103rd National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of the Makinde-backed faction of the party, held on Monday, May 4, in Abuja.

The decision followed a motion moved by the Edo State PDP Chairman, Tony Aziegbemi, and seconded by the party’s ex officio member, Clement Fagboyede.

Other members of the committee include Taofeek Arapaja, who was appointed National Secretary at the faction’s national convention held on November 15 and 16, 2025.

Also in the committee are Daniel Ambrose, Hamza Abuya, Ihediwa, Isah Abubakar, Theophilus Dakashan, Ini Ememobong, Aribisala Adewale Idowu, Baru Shaffi, and Okechukwu Obiechina.

The appointment of the caretaker committee comes days after the Supreme Court nullified the Ibadan convention of the Makinde-backed PDP faction, which produced Turaki as its National Chairman.

The judgement was delivered in the appeal filed by the Turaki-led National Working Committee (NWC) of the PDP.

In a split judgment delivered by a five-member panel of the apex court, on Thursday, April 30, three justices held that the appeal filed by Turaki lacked merit and affirmed the concurrent decisions of the Federal High Court and the Court of Appeal nullifying the convention.

Delivering the lead judgement in appeal number SC/CV/164/2026, Justice Stephen Adah held that the appellants acted in flagrant disobedience of a subsisting order of the Federal High Court restraining them from proceeding with the planned convention pending compliance with earlier directives of the court.

“The disobedience of the court order is not disputed,” Justice Adah held, adding that what transpired amounted to “a threat to the administration of justice in Nigeria.”

The Supreme Court consequently dismissed both the appeal and cross-appeals and ordered the parties to bear their respective costs.
