The family of former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai has dismissed as fake a letter circulating on social media and purportedly signed by the former governor, describing it as a forgery intended to create confusion within the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
In a statement issued on Thursday, July 23, 2026, Mohammed Bello El-Rufai, speaking on behalf of the family, said the document titled “Urgent Message” and dated July 14, 2026, did not originate from the former governor.
According to the statement, the family urged members of the public to disregard the letter, insisting that it was fabricated by individuals seeking to tarnish El-Rufai’s reputation and stir division within the opposition party.
“The former Director-General of the Bureau of Public Enterprises and former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, CON, wishes to alert the public that a fake letter is in circulation, purported to have been signed by him, titled Urgent Message,” the statement read.
“The spurious letter, purportedly dated July 14, 2026, and addressed to the National Chairman and National Secretary of the ADC, should be disregarded.”
The family further stated that both the language and handwriting contained in the circulating document bore no resemblance to those of the former governor.
“Neither the poor content nor the handwriting has anything to do with Mallam Nasir El-Rufai,” the statement added.
The family described the incident as a deliberate attempt to undermine El-Rufai and sow discord within the ADC.
“The fake letter shows another resort to desperation by Mallam’s traducers who seek to sow confusion and division. Their attempt at politics by fakery should be dismissed and condemned,” the statement continued.
“It is an instance of the most primitive politics, and its sponsors should be ashamed of themselves.”
Controversial Letter
The disputed letter, which circulated widely on social media, was purportedly addressed to the ADC’s National Chairman and National Secretary.
It alleged that the party’s governorship candidate in Kaduna State, Isah Ashiru, failed to complete the ADC’s online membership registration before the April 30, 2026 deadline, which the document claimed was a constitutional requirement for eligibility.
The letter further claimed that Ashiru’s nomination had generated discontent within the party and called on the ADC’s national and state leadership to intervene by reviewing the matter.
However, El-Rufai’s family insisted that the document was entirely fabricated and urged party members, supporters, and the general public not to attach any credibility to its contents.
As of the time of filing this report, the African Democratic Congress had not issued an official statement on the authenticity of the circulating letter or the allegations contained therein.
