The Governor of Kogi state, Yahaya Bello has warned that politicians in the country should desist from playing politics with the covid-19 pandemic.

The governor advised that the pandemic should rather be an avenue for employment opportunities for Nigerians to produce and export face masks to countries that are ravaged by the disease.

He said this on Thursday when he received members of the Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Sir Ahmadu Bello Memorial Foundation at the Government House in Lokoja.

While reacting to the controversies that arose in the wake of the death of the Chief Judge of the state, Justice Nasir Ajanah, Bello argued that the complications that eventually led to the death of the late Chief Judge was as a result of his inability to access medical attention due to the lockdown.

The Secretary to the board of the Sir Ahmadu Bello Foundation, Senator Ibrahim Shekarau, who led the delegation, presented 30,000 facemasks to the government and the people of the state as well as flag off public awareness advocacy against rape and other forms of gender based violence in Nigeria.

He called on state governments to strengthen their laws with stiffer penalties to perpetrators of these heinous acts.
