The president of Ghana, Nana Akufo-Addo, has rejected accusations of harassment by Nigerian merchants and affirmed that the relationship between the two states will continue.
The president stated this in a meeting with the speaker of the House of Representatives of Nigeria, Femi Gbajabiamila.
Akufo-Addo said, ‘It alarmed me because, if those are the feelings and attitudes of the Federal Government of Nigeria, then we are in a really serious problem.
‘You have to know that the Nigerian population of Ghana is safe. They are in a house of brothers. Many of them have been here for centuries trading and doing business without any difficulties, and that is the culture of cooperation and brotherhood.”
Of recent, Ghana and Nigeria have been entangled in a dispute following the eviction of Nigerian business owners involved in retail trade.
The speaker of the Nigerian House of Representatives is concluding a two-day visit to the Parliament of Ghana, with whose members he discussed aspects of relations between the two countries.
