A self-acclaimed prophet, Godwin Sunday Ajuluchukwucheya, popularly known as Prophet Sunday Koboko, is currently being grilled by the operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for allegedly defrauding his church members to the tune of N70.391 million.
He was arrested by men of the Enugu zonal directorate of the commission following petitions received over his alleged fraudulent activities.
It was gathered that a petitioner and member of his church, Okey Uwakwe, alleged that Prophet Koboko presented himself as a man of God capable of making his brother who travelled outside the country since 1997 to return home.
He also alleged that he paid the “prophet” the sum of N6.231 million for “spiritual works.”
According to the petitioner, the acclaimed prophet equally deceived him into believing that he had the power to make his sister-in-law who has been childless for over 15 years to conceive.
He added that the prophet allegedly collected the sum of N3.251 million also for spiritual works to that effect.
The petitioner further alleged that the man announced to his church members that he had won N33 billion in lottery, assuring that members who contributed financially to him would receive dividends from the said N33 billion.
Again, the petitioner said he allegedly contributed the sum of N3.349 million in order to get the dividend.
The petitioner also alleged that members of the man’s church were equally lured by him to contribute to his rice processing machine worth N1 billion in order to become partners in the business.
He stated that he contributed the sum of N500,000, adding that the total sum sent to the acclaimed prophet by him was N13.331 million without getting any results.
Also in the course of investigation, members of the man’s ministry started flooding the anti graft agency’s office with claims of how they were defrauded by him.
One of the members was quoted as saying: “When I came there (the ministry) a whole lot of things were going on as investments in the church and I took part in virtually all of them, ranging from the issue of him winning N33 billion lottery.”
Investigations by the agency further showed that the suspect’s modus operandi was luring the members of his ministry into buying his “products” for prosperity which included miracle sticker, spiritual dragon and holy ghost thunder.
According to the EFCC in a statement on Wednesday, June 17, the man had given more useful information to the agency and he will be charged to court as soon as investigations are concluded.
