Gunmen suspected to be bandits have killed a local government director in Kebbi State, abducted his wife as well as a teacher and others in the community they attacked.
The gunmen on Thursday night attacked the home of Alhaji Nasiru Muhammed, the Director of Personnel Management at the Ngaski Local Government Area of Kebbi State when they attacked the Low Cost Estate in the Yauri Local Government Area of the state.
It was gathered that the marauders arrived the community on motorcycles shooting sporadically. Some of them went straight to the home of the local government director, shot him dead and also went away with his wife.
A source close to the community told Impact Nigeria News Online on Friday morning that other members of the group abducted other residents including a teacher whose name was given as Maryam before returning to the forest.
As of the time of this report, some the community members are said to have abandoned their homes for fear of another attack from the bandits.
In another development, on Thursday afternoon, bandits abducted dozens of recently returned IDPs in Tambuwal Local Government Area of Sokoto State, after raiding two other communities, Gasalodi and Tungar.
Reports said about 20 residents were taken, livestock stolen and families who had just rebuilt their lives forced to flee again.
Residents said they alerted authorities of an impending attack but alleged that they received no adequate response or protection.
The Northern part of the country, especially the North-West, has been under the grips of bandits and terrorists who unleash mayhem on residents of various part of the region, killing some and abducting others for ransom.
