The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has commenced its 2026 nationwide recruitment exercise, inviting qualified Nigerians to apply for entry-level positions across various professional and administrative cadres.
The recruitment portal officially opened to the public on Monday, July 20, 2026, and will remain accessible until Monday, July 27, 2026, according to a notice published on the commission’s official website.
INEC said the recruitment exercise is aimed at strengthening its institutional capacity in electoral administration, voter registration, election logistics, data management, and other critical functions in line with its constitutional responsibilities.
The commission urged interested candidates to submit their applications online through its official recruitment portal, stressing that the process is completely free of charge.
It also warned applicants against submitting false information or forged documents, noting that anyone found guilty would be disqualified and could face prosecution.
Vacancies Across Three Cadres
The available positions are grouped into three categories covering Grade Levels (GL) 07, 08, 09, 10 and 12.
Under the Professional Cadre (GL 09, 10 and 12), vacancies exist for Accountants, Clinical Officers, Lawyers, ICT Officers, Engineers, and Quantity Surveyors.
Applicants for these positions must possess a bachelor’s degree or its equivalent from a recognised institution. Depending on the role, a master’s degree and relevant professional certifications—including those issued by the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN), Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), Nigerian Institute of Quantity Surveyors (NIQS), Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), Association of National Accountants of Nigeria (ANAN), or the Computer Professionals Registration Council of Nigeria (CPN)—may also be required.
Candidates are expected to have at least two years of post-qualification experience, an NYSC discharge or exemption certificate, and strong analytical, communication, problem-solving, and ICT skills.
For the position of Administrative Officer II (Registration Area Officer) on Grade Level 08, applicants must possess a bachelor’s degree, Higher National Diploma (HND), or its equivalent in the Social Sciences, Humanities, or Sciences. They must also present an NYSC discharge, exemption, or exclusion certificate and demonstrate competence in data management, record keeping, and the use of Microsoft Office and other digital tools.
The Executive Officer (Registration Officer) position on Grade Level 07 requires applicants to possess a National Certificate in Education (NCE) or its equivalent, alongside good computer knowledge, communication, organisational, and data-handling skills.
General Eligibility Requirements
Beyond the specific qualifications for each cadre, INEC outlined general conditions that all applicants must satisfy.
Candidates must present a valid certificate of state of origin signed by the chairman or secretary of their local government, be certified medically fit by a government medical officer, and must not be more than 35 years old at the time of application.
Applicants are also expected to be of good character with no criminal record, demonstrate integrity and discipline, and be willing to serve in any part of the country.
Application Procedure
INEC outlined a six-step application process for prospective candidates.
Interested applicants are required to visit the commission’s recruitment portal, create an account using their personal details, email address, and National Identification Number (NIN), and verify their email address before logging in.
Applicants are then expected to select their preferred cadre and vacancy, complete the online application form, and upload all required credentials, including a recent passport photograph, birth certificate or declaration of age, O’Level result, degree, HND, ND or NCE certificate, local government identification certificate, and NYSC certificate where applicable.
The commission advised candidates to carefully review their applications before submission, noting that once a vacancy has been selected, it cannot be changed.
INEC further stated that only shortlisted applicants would be contacted for the next stage of the recruitment exercise.
The commission encouraged all qualified Nigerians who meet the stipulated requirements to submit their applications before the closing date of July 27, 2026.
