Nigerians have between January and June this year spent the sum of N1.7 trillion on MTN data and N897 billion on voice calls, driving the company’s half-year revenue to ₦2.993 trillion.

The citizens also spent N112.7 billion on text messages, also known as Short Messaging Services (SMS) during the period under review.

MTN announced these figures in its half year results submitted to the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) on Thursday, July 30.

It was also a cheering news for Nigerian shareholders as the company announced N26 as interim dividend which will be paid in September to shareholders whose names are on its register on or before August 20.

It was a huge increase from the N5 interim dividend paid by the company last year.

In the half-year report, MTN said interconnect and roaming services ₦112.2 billion while it sold handsets and accessories for ₦11 billion while its other digital services fetched it the sum of ₦58.7 billion.

“Value-Added Services are ₦77.1 billion,  rental income was ₦506 million while other revenue stood at ₦23.9 billion,” the telecom giant said in the report.
