The Federal Government, through the Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs, has expressed its appreciation to The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) led by Pastor Enoch Adeboye for the donation of the sum of $265,854 for purchase of 500 tickets for the evacuation of Nigerians in South Africa.
Some Nigerians have in recent times been facing xenophobic and afrophobic attacks from citizens of South Africa who launch attacks on their shops, asking them to leave their country.
No fewer than 1,640 Nigerians have so far been airlifted back home as a result of the development while some are awaiting airlift.
However, the ministry, in a statement on Friday morning, said it appreciated the gesture of the RCCG towards the evacuation of the distressed Nigerians in the country.
According to the statement, the ministry regards the donation as a significant demonstration of the church’s compassion, solidarity and genuine commitment towards providing succour to distressed and stranded Nigerians who are faced with the scourges of xenophobia and afrophobia in the country.
“We are grateful for this partnership and look forward to working with the church’s leadership in South Africa, as the generous donation is deployed for the evacuation of 500 distressed Nigerians,” the statement added.
