A 22-year-old lady who organised her own kidnap and collected the sum of N3 million from her family members has been arrested by men of the Anambra State Police Command at her hideout.
The lady, Chidubem Blessing Nwachuckwu, was arrested by operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), Awkuzu, following credible intelligence received in the course of an investigation into a reported kidnapping incident.
Police operatives got the report that she was abducted along the Onitsha-Asaba Expressway on August 29 while a ransom of N10 million was demanded for her release.
The family members were said to have negotiated the ransom to N3 million. However, despite the payment of the ransom by the family, she was not released, prompting further investigation by the police.
Following sustained intelligence gathering and investigative efforts, police operatives, in the afternoon of September 18, traced and located the lady at her hideout in a room in Asaba, Delta State, where she was arrested.
“Preliminary findings from the investigation indicated that the lady conspired with a female associate identified as Onyinye, whose other names are yet to be established, and another male accomplice, whose identity is presently unknown, to stage her own kidnap and obtain money from her family,” the command said in a statement on Sunday, September 20.
The lady was said to have given more useful information to the police and she is currently assisting them in getting more information towards establishing the full circumstances of the incident, as well as identifying and apprehending her alleged accomplices.
She is expected to be charged to court at the conclusion of the investigation into her act.
