The Kwara State Police Command has arrested one Sylvester Enemo, 29, for the gruesome murder of his elder brother’s wife, Mrs. Esther Enemo, a 39-year-old pregnant woman, in Ilorin, the state capital.
The tragic incident occurred on Wednesday night, August 21, 2025, at Temidire community along Egbejila Road, Ilorin. Residents said the victim, whose husband, Mr. Ekene Enemo, is a trader in agricultural chemicals and equipment in a border town in Kwara North, was home alone when the crime took place.
According to eyewitnesses, the deceased was seen earlier in the evening purchasing bottles of beer and plates of pepper soup before retiring indoors. By dawn, suspicion grew when a neighbour noticed her brother-in-law leaving the house with a black plastic bag dripping with blood. The neighbour raised an alarm after following the trail, which led to the discovery of dismembered body parts later found in nearby bushes. The victim’s head was reportedly missing.
Police sources revealed that the matter was initially reported at the Budo Nuhu Divisional Headquarters along Airport Road before being transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Ilorin for further investigation.
Confirming the incident in a statement, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Toun Ejire-Adeyemi, said detectives recovered parts of the victim’s body hidden in a sack and dumped under a community bridge.
“The Kwara State Police Command wishes to inform members of the public of a tragic incident that occurred in the early hours of Thursday, August 21, 2025, at Temidire community, Egbejila Road, Ilorin. Following a swift police response, detectives visited the scene, where the dismembered body of Mrs. Esther Enemo was discovered. A suspect, one Mr. Sylvester Enemo, younger brother to the victim’s husband, who was seen leaving the house shortly before the discovery, has been arrested,” the statement read.
Ejire-Adeyemi added that the deceased’s remains had been deposited at the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital (UITH) morgue for autopsy, while the victim’s husband has been contacted for clarification.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Ojo Adekimi, has ordered a full-scale investigation, vowing that justice would be served. He also appealed for calm, warning against speculations that could incite fear in the community.
“The Command remains fully committed to unravelling the circumstances surrounding this incident and ensuring that perpetrators face the full weight of the law,” Ejire-Adeyemi assured.
Police further urged residents to cooperate by providing useful information that could assist ongoing investigations, while reiterating that security measures across Kwara State had been reinforced to safeguard lives and property.
