Residents of two community in Zamfara State have fled for their dear lives after gunmen suspected to be bandits killed 14 local security personnel and a number of civilians.

The gunmen, said to be loyal to notorious bandit leader, Kachalla Gwaska Dankarami, on Monday evening attacked Bindin and Gobirawar Chali communities in Maru Local Government Area of the state, and killed the security personnel and some civilians.

It was gathered that while the attack was ongoing, many residents had to flee in different directions, with some hanging on vehicles while others sat on top of trucks in order to escape the attack.

A source in the know of the incident told Impact Nigeria News Online on Tuesday afternoon that though the number of civilians that were killed could not be ascertained, bodies of the 14 local security personnel were found after the bandits left the community.

The source added that more than 1,000 residents have fled the communities for safety in other communities and surrounding bushes while alleging that distress calls to soldiers and policemen were allegedly not responded to.

In another development, on Monday around 9:00 a.m., bandits blocked the Goronyo-Sokoto road in Sokoto State and abducted an unspecified number of passengers travelling in a vehicle.

It was gathered that during the attack, the driver and another passenger in the vehicle were killed.

Drivers and passengers inside various other vehicles on the road were said to have abandoned the vehicles and fled into the bush during the period the marauders had a field day on the road.
