A man who specialised in using machete to rob women in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital, has been arrested by men of the state police command alongside the receiver of items stolen from the women.

The serial robber, whose name was given as Wisdom Effiong, aged 27 years, was arrested in connection with a series of machete attacks and robberies targeting women following information and reports circulated on social media.

It was gathered that more than seven women were attacked and robbed by him on different occasions.

Also arrested was Yakub Abdullah, said to have received some of the items stolen from the women during the attacks.

At the point of the arrest of the receiver, items said to have been recovered from him included a handbag, one Tecno POP  phone, one iPhone 11, one Redmi phone, three power banks, among others.

“So far, seven women have identified Wisdom Effiong as the person who attacked and robbed them, while investigation is ongoing to establish the full extent of their involvement and identify other possible accomplices,” the command said in a statement on Thursday, October 8.

The two men had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for more investigation and they are expected to be charged to court upon the conclusion of the investigation.
