Two passengers were confirmed dead while two others sustained serious injuries when a commercial minibus and a pickup van collided on the Third Mainland Bridge on Sunday afternoon.
The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), which announced the accident in a statement on Sunday evening, stated that it occurred along the Adekunle corridor inward Iyana Oworo, resulting in the instant deaths of two passengers and serious injuries to two other victims, comprising a male and a female.
The collision, which was said to have been caused by the minibus driver while apparently driving against normal flow of traffic, necessitated an immediate emergency response by LASTMA operatives, who mobilised to the scene to coordinate rescue operations, secure the accident site and ensure traffic flow.
In the course of the rescue operation, the two deceased passengers were taken out of the vehicle and handed over to the Lagos State Environmental Health Monitoring Unit (SEHMU) for movement to the mortuary while the two injured passengers were conveyed to the General Hospital, Odan, for medical attention.
LASTMA operatives also handed over the vehicles involved in the accident and the driver of the minibus to police operatives from the Yaba Divisional Headquarters.
Shortly after, the normal flow of vehicular traffic was restored along the corridor.
