Vice-presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Rabiu Kwankwaso, on Sunday, October 18, rejected claims that the party’s Obi-Kwankwaso ticket will withdraw from the 2027 presidential race in favour of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and its candidate, Atiku Abubakar.
In a statement, Kwankwaso expressed concern over the conduct of the ADC Presidential Campaign Council accusing it of launching unnecessary attacks on him, the NDC’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, and the party itself.
He said the ADC campaign team was creating mischief by suggesting that the NDC ticket was working for the All Progressives Congress (APC) and its presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu, or that it might step down at the last minute for the ADC candidate.
Kwankwaso described such claims as unfounded and unhelpful.
He said: “Let me state clearly and unequivocally, we will not withdraw our candidature for the ADC or any other party. We remain confident in our capacity, competence, and readiness to lead Nigeria.”
Kwankwaso added that the NDC ticket is neither working for nor acting on behalf of the APC or any of its candidates, and that there is no possibility or reason for them to withdraw in favour of the ADC or anyone else.
He urged the ADC campaign to focus instead on responding to serious allegations levelled against their candidate by Vice President Kashim Shettima.
