A man and his wife who were abducted by kidnappers and kept inside a forest in a community in Ondo State have been rescued by men of the command while one of the kidnappers was arrested.

It was gathered that in the early hours of Wednesday, November 26 around 5:30 a.m., the command received a distress call that a man and his wife were kidnapped inside their farm hut located along the Ondo-Ekiti border at Odeigede Camp.

Following the distress call received, operatives from the Iju-Itaogbolu Division and the State Anti-Kidnapping Squad (SAKS), working with youths of the community, advanced into the forest terrain in pursuit of the kidnappers.

As the pressure from the combined team intensified, the kidnappers were said to have abandoned the victims. The husband, who suffered machete cuts, managed to escape alongside his wife, after which the operatives promptly rescued them.

The police were said to have deployed intelligence-led strategies to trace the suspects’ movement deep inside the forest.

This tactical effort led to the discovery of a hut where one of the kidnappers was arrested while a Samsung Note 10 mobile phone, a sword and a broken bottle were found with him.

The command wrote: “Although the kidnappers wore masks during the incident, the physical built and appearance of the arrested gang member matched the description provided by the victims.

“The suspect has since been cooperating with investigators and giving useful information, aiding ongoing efforts to apprehend the fleeing accomplice(s).
