The Chairman of the Accord Party in Osogbo Local Government Area of Osun State, Asimiyu Ajibola, popularly known as Baba Isila, is reportedly battling for his life after suspected gunmen attacked him and his associates in Osogbo. This incident has been widely reported under the headline: Accord Party Chairman Shot in Osogbo.

The incident occurred around 9:50 p.m. on Wednesday near the Community Bank area of the MDS axis of the state capital, causing panic among residents as gunshots rang out across the neighbourhood. News of Accord Party Chairman Shot in Osogbo has brought significant attention to local security issues.

According to sources, the assailants targeted a blue Toyota Corolla conveying Ajibola and his friends, opening fire repeatedly and riddling the vehicle with bullets in what eyewitnesses described as a coordinated attack. Accord Party Chairman Shot in Osogbo has become a topic of concern in the area.

Ajibola reportedly sustained severe gunshot injuries during the attack and was rushed to the University of Osun Teaching Hospital (UNIOSUN Teaching Hospital), Osogbo, where he is receiving treatment.

One of the occupants of the vehicle who survived the attack recounted the incident, saying the gunmen suddenly emerged and began shooting at their vehicle while they were returning from the MDS area.

“We were coming from the MDS area of Osogbo at about 9:50 p.m. when armed men started chasing us and opened fire on our vehicle. We managed to escape and drove straight to the Dugbe Divisional Police Headquarters for protection before the attackers fled,” the survivor said.

He added that the matter was immediately reported to the police before the injured politician was taken to the hospital for urgent medical attention.

Reacting to the development, Osun State Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi, condemned the attack and called for a thorough investigation. Meanwhile, many are calling for justice after Accord Party Chairman Shot in Osogbo.

Describing the incident as unfortunate, Alimi urged security agencies to ensure that those behind the shooting are identified and prosecuted.

“It is an unfortunate incident which should not be allowed to go uninvestigated. The culprits must be brought to book,” he said.

The commissioner further called on the police to carry out a professional and unbiased investigation, noting that preliminary indications suggested the attack may have political undertones.

“We are calling on the police to conduct their investigation without fear or favour and uncover the masterminds of the attack, which from available indications appears to have elements of political coloration,” he added.

As of the time of filing this report, the Osun State Police Command had yet to officially confirm the incident, as attempts to reach the command’s spokesperson, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi Zechariah, were unsuccessful.

The attack has heightened concerns over rising political tension and insecurity in Osun State ahead of future political activities.
