Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa State has officially defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), marking a significant shift in the state’s political landscape.
Fintirin defected to the APC three months after he was made the Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) national convention held in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, on November 15 and 16, 2025.
The governor made the announcement of his defection during a statewide broadcast on Friday, February 27, revealing that he moved to the APC alongside his entire cabinet and all officials of the PDP in the state.
Fintiri said the decision was driven by what he described as the “developmental interest” of the people of Adamawa State, stressing that the move would better position the state for growth and greater alignment with the Federal Government.
His defection on Friday add to the list of governors who have defected to the APC in the last couple of months.
Taraba State governor, Agbu Kefas, as well as his counterparts in Kano and Plateau states, Abba Yusuf and Caleb Muftwang, have also joined the ruling party.
