Adeboye, Odeyemi & others lead prayer walk against terrorism in Nigeria

In the face of killings and insecurity crisis in Nigeria, the General Overseer of The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye on Sunday led members of his Church to a Prayer Walk to seek the end of persistent insecurity and killings in Nigeria.

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) had declared a 3-day fasting and prayer, which ends on Sunday 2nd, against terrorism and the spate of killings in the country.

At the prayer walk, members prayed and carried placards with The inscriptions such as ‘We say no to killings, ‘We say no to terrorism, ‘Every life matters’, ‘Shed no blood, it cries to God’, ‘God hurts when his creatures hurt, all creatures are created equal’ ‘silencing others right is not right, among others.

Earlier, while praying for the peace and security of the country during the Church thanksgiving service held in Ebute-Metta, Lagos, Adeboye prayed that God should expose and bring to an end all the activities of terrorists, kidnappers, bandits and their sponsors.

“Lord, have mercy on Nigeria. Let there be peace and security in Nigeria. God sees all things and knows where the terrorists are hiding, we pray that God sends His light to Nigeria and expose the evildoers in the country,” Adeboye said.

The Assistant General Overseer (Admin & Personnel) of RCCG, Pastor J. F. Odesola who spoke with journalists urged the government to strengthen the security architectures of the nation to protect all Nigerians and particularly the communities that are being consumed by insurgents, Islamic terrorists, bandits, kidnappers and ritualists.

The secularity of Nigeria must be maintained – Odeyemi

Following the recurring killings across the country, Nigerian leaders have been advised to maintain the secular nature of the country.

They are also advised to be conscious of religious sensitivity of Nigeria and not hold any religion over the other.

The Assistant General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) and the Pastor-in-Charge of the region, Emmanuel Odeyemi said this when he spoke to newsmen after the Prayer walk organised by the church.

“Nigeria is a secular state. Everyone has the right to worship the Lord the way he wants. Our advice to the leaders is that they must not support one religion above the other and they must ensure that the secularity of Nigeria is maintained,” Odeyemi said.

IMPACT gathered that the prayer walk was the directive of the Christian Association of Nigeria, keyed into by the General Overseer of the church, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, to protest the insecurity and killings across the country.

Recalled that last week, the Senate called for the sack of Service Chiefs over insecurity across the country while many Nigerians also support the call by the Senate.

Also the United States of America placed Nigeria on visa ban due to security reasons.

The current Security situation in the Southwest zone of the country led to the setting up of the Western Nigeria Security Network codenamed AMOTEKUN.

Lamenting over the current situation, Odeyemi said, “All the churches that are associated with Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) condemn killings in Nigeria. Because our God is a prayer answering God, we declare that after this particular programme Nigeria shall see peace.
