A group of kidnappers, again, stormed Kawu Community in the Bwari Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), abducting a former Ward Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Alhassan Sidi Kawu and other 22 individuals.
according to Punch, the abduction took place in the early hours of Thursday.
Kawu Community, which shares boundaries with Kaduna and Niger states, became the target of the gunmen, who reportedly arrived from the Kuyeri Forest in Kaduna State the previous day.
The Deputy Speaker of the Bwari Area Council and councillor representing the affected community, Abdulmumini Zakari, revealed that the assailants divided themselves into groups.
He said some entered the palace of the District Head, Alhaji Abdurrahman Danjuma Ali, abducting his son, Lukman, and his wife, who had recently been married.
Meanwhile, others targeted the compound of Alhaji Alhassan Sidi Kawu, the Marafa of Kawu and a former PDP Chairman of Kawu Ward. The gunmen abducted him along with his four children.
Additional victims included Sarkin Pawan Kawu, Gambo Pawa, and his two wives, along with some children.
Meanwhile, Nobel Laureate, Professor Wole Soyinka, has warned Nigerian leaders that the country is breaking informally.
Soyinka urged the government at all levels to desist from taking citizens as fools.
He spoke during The Punch 50th anniversary lecture, themed ‘Recovering the Narrative,’ on Thursday.
Soyinka charged the government to be close to the people.
According to Soyinka: “It’s about time leaders stopped taking us for a ride so that the government can come close to the people.
“We don’t want the nation to break, the nation is breaking informally. Let nations die so that humanity may live. I don’t like to use the word restructuring.
“Politicians understand the terms when they are not in office but turn to something else when they assume office.
“It is the same thing with reconstruction, and it is time to look into it because it is not a slogan.”
