The Ondo State Security Network, better known as the Amotekun Corps, has recorded a major breakthrough with the dismantling of an interstate burglary syndicate operating between Lagos and Ondo states. The Corps also recovered stolen electronic gadgets and goods valued at over ₦300 million.
Speaking to journalists in Akure, Corps Commander Akogun Adetunji Adeleye revealed that the syndicate targeted homes and shops in Lagos, stealing electronic devices and mobile phones. The looted items were then repackaged in cartons to evade detection before being transported to Ondo for resale.
According to Adeleye, the syndicate’s operation collapsed after a commercial bus boarded by one of the suspects from Ojota Motor Park in Lagos stopped for refueling. Suspicion arose during inspection, revealing that the contents had been carefully disguised, prompting further investigation. This led to the arrest of three additional suspects and the recovery of more stolen items.
Some of the retrieved goods, Adeleye noted, were traced to a licensed electronics dealer in Ondo State, and would be returned after the completion of necessary legal procedures.
“Beyond the arrests, what we celebrate is the recovery of lives and property. Our operations in the past week have reduced incidents of kidnapping, armed robbery, burglary, and cultism,” Adeleye said.
In a related development, Amotekun operatives successfully rescued two kidnap victims abducted six days ago along Itagbolu Road in Akure North. The victims were freed after a 96-hour forest search, without any ransom being paid, despite a ₦50 million demand by the kidnappers.
Commander Adeleye urged residents not to yield to ransom demands, stressing that recent cases have been resolved without payments.
Also paraded were a notorious gang leader who had evaded arrest for six months, and a repeat offender who fled to Kano after jumping bail. Another suspect was linked to violent clashes with herders.
Amotekun reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property across Ondo State.
