Operatives of the Anambra State Police Command have arrested four men alleged to be members of a criminal gang responsible for armed robbery and kidnapping in Aguleri, Anambra East Local Government Area.
According to a statement issued on Tuesday by Police Public Relations Officer SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the suspects were picked up in the early hours of September 24, 2025, during a sting operation carried out by officers of the Rapid Response Squad in Awkuzu, acting on credible intelligence.
The four suspects – identified as Uchenna Aniegboka, Sunday Nwakalor, Chukwuebuka Aniegbunam, and Onyebuchi Udemba – are aged between 22 and 40. Police said one pump-action gun and a black Toyota Camry with registration number SMK 835 FC were recovered from the gang during the operation.
Commissioner of Police CP Ikioye Orutugu commended the swift response of the officers and reassured residents that the command remains committed to flushing out criminal elements from all parts of the state. He urged members of the public to continue to provide timely information to aid security operations.
“The Command reaffirms its commitment to ensuring that criminal elements have no hiding place in Anambra State,” the CP said.
Ikenga added that the suspects are currently in custody undergoing interrogation, and the case will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
The latest arrests come amid renewed security operations in Anambra, as authorities intensify efforts to curb violent crimes and reassure residents of safety.
