The National Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Rauf Aregbesola, has called on Nigerians to rally behind the party in its bid to rebuild the country ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Speaking in Osogbo to a large gathering of ADC members and supporters, the former Osun State governor declared that the ADC represents a credible, people-first alternative to the current administration, which he accused of taking Nigeria backward.
Aregbesola emphasized that the party’s foundation rests on service, trust, and competence. He said the ADC’s progressive ideals are rooted in the legacy of visionary leaders such as Obafemi Awolowo, Bola Ige, and Adekunle Ajasin. While acknowledging that obstacles are inevitable, he vowed that the party would not be distracted by misinformation or attacks from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). “Let them throw insults; we will offer answers,” he said.
In Ilorin, Kwara State, former APC governorship aspirant Associate Professor Abdulmumin Yinka Ajia described the ADC as a strategic coalition platform for opposition forces seeking to rescue the nation. Speaking at his annual colloquium, Ajia said Nigeria was suffering the effects of a collapsing state and called for a strong opposition free from ruling-party influence.
Other speakers at the event, including civil society and political movement leaders, echoed the need for democratic renewal, institutional reform, and a people-driven political agenda. They expressed concern over rising poverty, insecurity, and democratic backsliding.
Aregbesola reiterated that the ADC remains open to all Nigerians committed to a future based on inclusion, competence, and compassion. “Power is not a throne to occupy but a duty to serve,” he said. “We are stepping into a new chapter—of restoration, responsibility, and real results.”
