The Nigerian Army has arrested a 36-year-old man, Animashaun Khalid, for allegedly impersonating a senior officer and handed him over to the Lagos State Police Command for investigation.
Khalid, who was parading himself as a Major, was apprehended by soldiers at the Arena Market, Oshodi, after he was found with a forged Nigerian Army identity card bearing his name and rank. He was immediately transferred to the police in what authorities described as a seamless operation that demonstrated strong inter-agency collaboration.
Confirming the development, the Lagos State Police Command said the case has been assigned to its Special Squad I for detailed investigation. Police spokesperson, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, explained that detectives will work to uncover the source of the forged identity card, identify possible accomplices, and establish whether the suspect used the fake rank to perpetrate other crimes.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, commended the Nigerian Army for its swift action and prompt handover of the suspect, describing it as an example of effective synergy among security agencies.
He further urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities, assuring that collaboration between the police, the military, and other security agencies will continue to strengthen safety in Lagos State.
The police added that the suspect will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
