The Nigerian Army has redeployed several senior officers to key command, operational and administrative positions as part of efforts to strengthen its response to Nigeria’s evolving security challenges.

The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, approved the postings on Tuesday, with the exercise focusing on critical operational theatres and strategic appointments.

Major General IA Ajose was moved from the Army Headquarters Department of Army Operations to become the new Theatre Commander of the Joint Task Force North-East, Operation Hadin Kai, while Major General AE Abubakar was redeployed from the theatre command to the Nigerian Army Heritage and Future Centre as Dean, Faculty of Operational Research.

Major General RT Utsaha was appointed Commander, Defence Headquarters Garrison, after moving from the Army Headquarters Department of Army Standards and Evaluation.

Other senior appointments saw Major General AM Umar move from the Department of Civil-Military Affairs to become Commandant of the Army War College Nigeria, while Major General UM Alkali moved from the college to the Department of Civil-Military Affairs.

Major General GS Muhammed was redeployed from the Office of the National Security Adviser to the Nigerian Army Finance Corporation as Director-General, while Major General JE Osifo moved from NAFIC to the Military Pension Board as Chairman.

At the operational level, Brigadier General AA Bello moved from 6 Division Garrison/Sector 3 Joint Task Force South-South, Operation Delta Safe, to the Department of Defence Operations.

Brigadier General MS Adamu was appointed Commander of the newly established 8 Brigade, while Brigadier General MS Sule moved from Operation Enduring Peace to command 27 Brigade.

Brigadier General I Sule was redeployed to 6 Division Garrison as Commander, while Brigadier General E Azenda became Commander, 2 Division Garrison. Brigadier General AS Bugaje moved to the Land Forces Simulation Centre as Director of Administration.

The Army said the redeployments were designed to place officers with the appropriate experience and expertise in positions critical to national security.

Shaibu charged the newly appointed commanders to justify the confidence reposed in them through exemplary leadership, professionalism, operational innovation and an unwavering commitment to defending Nigeria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

The Army said it would continue to strengthen its leadership and force-employment framework to improve operational outcomes, joint coordination and its capacity to respond decisively to emerging security threats.
