A prominent Islamic cleric in Katsina State as well as his friend who paid him a visit have been gunned down by two assailants in front of his house.
The Islamic cleric and scholar, Sheikh Yahaya Ibrahim Masussuka, and his friend, Adamu Abubakar, were shot dead on Monday, October 26, around 7:30 p.m. at his residence located in Dutsin-Ma Local Government Area of the state.
According to reports, the two men just returned from the mosque where they observed the evening prayer when the two armed men on a motorcycle opened fire, fatally injuring him and his friend.
It could however not be ascertained if the assailants were kidnappers or bandits.
Following the incident, a distress call was made to the police and upon receipt of the report, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Dutsin-Ma station, led a team of operatives to the scene.
The two men were rushed to the nearest hospital for medical attention, where they were pronounced dead by the medical doctor on duty.
They are expected to be buried today in accordance with Islamic rites while the Commissioner of Police in the state has ordered the deployment of tactical and operational teams to the area to fish out the perpetrators of the gruesome act.
“An investigation has commenced, and efforts are being intensified to track down and arrest the fleeing suspects,” the command said in a statement.
