A student of Babcock University, Ilisan Remo, Ogun State, Oladipupo Siwajuola, who was recently declared missing by his mother, has been expelled by the institution for multiple offences, including involvement in fetish practices, drug peddling, impersonation, and dishonest conduct.
The university’s Director of Marketing and Communication, Joshua Suleiman, made the disclosure in a statement released on Wednesday. Siwajuola’s disappearance had sparked concern after his mother, Fijabi Oyindamola Omotayo, took to Facebook on May 3 to raise alarm about his whereabouts and accused the institution of negligence.
He was later found, but investigations revealed he had left the campus without official clearance, disguising himself in a hoodie to exit through the university’s teaching hospital gate.
Upon his return to campus on May 15, Siwajuola was invited by the university’s Department of Secret Service, where he reportedly confessed to several acts of misconduct. These included the purchase of black soap from a traditional herbalist for ritual purposes linked to “Yahoo Yahoo Plus” – a form of internet fraud involving fetish practices.
He also admitted to drug peddling, borrowing N500,000 from an online loan platform to finance gambling, and impersonating another student to open a bank account. Additionally, he sold his phone without authorization, falsely claiming his father had consented.
Contrary to his mother’s statement that he was found by his secondary school friends, the university clarified that it was the mother of a friend he stayed with in Lagos who identified him and alerted his family.
The university stated that Siwajuola was found guilty of violating its rules and policies and had to be expelled in accordance with global best practices. Although displeased by the mother’s public allegations, Babcock University said it would not take legal action due to the cooperative attitude of the student’s father.
