Gunmen suspected to be bandits on Monday night invaded the home town of the Deputy Governor of Sokoto State, Dr Idris Mohammed Gobir, injuring five residents and abducting a number of persons said to be “over 20.”
The bandits on motorcycles stormed Garin Idi community in Tarah Ward, Sabon Birni Local Government Area of Sokoto State, injuring the five residents and abducting men, women and children in the process.
A source close to the community told Impact Nigeria News Online on Tuesday morning that security men stationed in the community left last week and apparently after seeing that there was no longer protection for the residents, the marauders struck on Monday night.
It was also gathered that the Deputy Governor went to the town on Monday morning in company of security officers to assess the situation and he was told about the attack by community leaders.
As of the time of this report, it could not be confirmed if there had been communication between the bandits and the community regarding payment of ransom.
In another development, on Monday afternoon, bandits attempted to invade Na’alma village in Malumfashi Local Government Area of Katsina State but were pushed back by local vigilantes and C-Watch operatives following a swift response.
The attackers reportedly fled towards the western axis, while community volunteers remained on alert to prevent any further movement of the marauders.
The Northern part of the country, especially the North-West, has been under the grips of bandits and terrorists who unleash terror on residents of various communities in the states, killing some and abducting others for ransom.
