Gunmen suspected to be bandits on Tuesday afternoon killed a man while attempting to deliver ransom money demanded for the release of his friend and business associate.
The bandits killed Alhaji Muhammad Bala, popularly known as Baba Balan Illo, from a town in Katsina State as he took the undisclosed ransom money to the den of the marauders.
The friend was said to have been abducted two weeks ago when the bandits invaded the town, and they demanded the money for his release.
The community was said to have raised an amount after negotiating with the bandits and asked Alhaji Bala to take it to them.
Sadly, on getting to the agreed point, he was shot dead while the money was taken away. It could however not be confirmed if the business associate was released after the collection of the ransom.
In another positive development, on Tuesday morning, vigilantes repelled a bandit attack in Dogon Kade, Kaura Namoda Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
According to sources, scores of bandits were killed during the clash, including Alhajj Tukur, a younger brother of notorious bandit leader, Kachalla Shehu Bagiwaye.
