Bandits have again struck at two communities in Zamfara State, setting a fuel tanker as well as houses ablaze while also abducting the driver of the vehicle, his motor boy as well as some residents of the communities.

Zamfara State has been in the news over incessant attacks by bandits who used to raid communities, abducting residents and destroying their properties. They will thereafter take the victims to the forests and demand for ransoms from their family members.

The latest attacks were said to have occurred Bunkasau and Kumbu communities in Bukkuyum Local Government Area of the state on Friday night when some of the residents were preparing to sleep.

According to a source close to the community, the first attack occurred when the bandits stopped a fully-loaded fuel tanker along the Anka-Gurusu Road in Kumbu and set it ablaze.

They thereafter abducted the driver, the motor boy as well as two others in the vehicle.

Shortly after, the bandits invaded Bunkasau community in the same local government at night, injured some residents and abducted others while also setting their houses and other valuables ablaze.

The source added that while the attack on Bunkasau was ongoing, distress calls were made to security agencies but there was no response which made the bandits to have a field day.

As of the time of this report, neither the state government nor the police command in the state has reacted to the attacks while the source disclosed that the communities have been deserted as some of the remaining residents had fled.
