Some bandits on Saturday evening stormed a wedding venue at a community in Sokoto State, abducted the bride and her bridesmaids as well as 30 other women.

The abduction took place at Chacho community in Wurno Local Government Area of Sokoto State as the bandits invaded the community around 5:30 p.m., headed to where the wedding was taking place shot into the air. They eventually went with the women into the forest.

A competent source told Impact Nigeria News Online on Sunday morning that during the attack, some men who attempted to resist the bandits from taking the women were shot and they are currently receiving treatment in the hospital. It could however not be ascertained if the groom was among those who put up the resistance.

The source added that the community members as well as security agencies have begun a frantic search in order to locate the forest where the women were taken to.

Sokoto and other states in the Nirth-West have been grappling with the activities of bandits in recent times who used to invade communities, kill residents and take others away as hostages. They will thereafter demand for ransoms.

Both the state governments as well as security agencies seem to be helpless in addressing the menace of banditry in the North-West part of the country.
