Biden picks Nigerian-born Adewale Adeyemo as US Deputy Secretary
United States President-elect, Joe Biden, has reportedly penciled down a 39-year old Nigerian-born, Adewale Adeyemo, as Deputy Treasury Secretary.
Adeyemo is expected to work under Janet Yellen, former Federal Reserve Chair who is hoped to lead the US Treasury Department.
Three people of colour including Cecilia Rouse and Neera Tanden are expected to be on Biden’s economic team.
While Rouse, an African American economist at Princeton University, has been selected to lead the Council of Economic Advisers, Tanden will be named Director, Office of Management and Budget.
Neera Tanden, an Indian American was president of Center for American Progress and a senior policy adviser to Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaigns.
Adeyemo, on his part was a senior international economic adviser during the Obama administration and first president of the Obama Foundation.
He had served as the Director of African American Outreach for John Kerry 2004 presidential campaign.
He was appointed in 2015 as Deputy National Security Advisor for International Economics, and Deputy Director of the National Economic Council.
