Buhari wins own, Obasanjo, Atiku polling units
President Muhammadu Buhari has won his polling unit, PU003 at Sarkin Yara ward A, in Daura, Katsina. The president also floors his main challenger, Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the polling unit of former President Olusegun Obassanjo in Ogun state.
The president scored 523 votes while the Presidential candidate of the PDP, Atiku Abubakar got only three votes.
At the polling unit of ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo while the All Progressives Congress (APC) secured 87 votes in the presidential election, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) got just 18 votes.
Ahead of the election Obasanjo had picked Atiku over Buhari, advising the president to quit politics.
However, president Buhari’s party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), candidate for Katsina North senatorial district, incumbent Kaita Baba- Ahmad, lost the unit to the candidate of Accord party, Lawal Nalado.
Mr Nalado scored 263 while Mr Kaita scored 248 votes.
The candidate of the major opposition party, the PDP, Usman Mani, scored only two votes.
President Buhari had on Saturday morning reaffirmed his confidence in winning the presidential election.
Mr Buhari told reporters shortly after voting at Kofar Baru, Sarkin Yara “A” ward in Daura, his home town, that he would win the election and congratulate himself.
Clad in a light blue `Babbar Riga’, the president was accompanied by his wife, Aisha, and some security details.
Mrs Buhari was the first to vote before the president at 8.06 a.m., while the president voted at 8.10 a.m.
“So far, so good. Nigerians understand and are behaving themselves,’’ Buhari said when asked to give his assessment of the exercise, so far.
When asked if he would congratulate the winner if he lost the election he said, “I will congratulate myself; I am going to be the winner,’’ the president said.
